Ponferrada hosts III Gala del Comercio to support local retail

III Gala del Comercio Ponferrada local commerce El Bierzo retail adaptation

Ponferrada is hosting the III Gala del Comercio to recognize the efforts of local businesses and advocate for the future of street commerce in the region. The event features 16 awards and musical performances by Marta Sánchez.

Iván Rodríguez, president of El Centro Mola, emphasized that while traditional retail faces challenges from e-commerce and large supermarkets, local shops can compete through personalized interpersonal service. He urged the sector to adapt with energy and proactivity rather than nostalgia.

Other cultural activities in the Ponferrada and El Bierzo area for the upcoming weekend include the 24th edition of the Ponferrada International Film Festival, various musical and choral performances, and the ninth edition of the 'Ponferrada en marcha contra el cáncer' solidarity race, which expects over 5,000 participants.
