Pontevedra towns call for safety upgrades on Spain's N‑550 highway

The mayor of Barro, Xosé Manuel Fernández Abraldés, sent a letter to Transport Minister Óscar Puente expressing "deep concern and social alarm" over the N‑550 road that runs through the municipality. He highlighted several high‑risk junctions – the Porráns crossing with EP‑226, the A Porriña intersection with EP‑0506, and the PO‑224 junction – and demanded the construction of roundabouts and other permanent engineering solutions, noting that project designs have been ready for over a year but remain pending approval.

In the nearby town of Mos, Mayor Nidia Arévalo wrote to the Sub‑delegation of the Government of Pontevedra after a 47‑year‑old German pilgrim was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene at the Camiño da Quiringosta crossing. The woman suffered a fractured right leg and was taken to Hospital Álvaro Cunqueiro. The mayor called for urgent measures such as enhanced signage, speed‑limit reviews, traffic‑calming actions and increased police monitoring, and requested an immediate meeting with the Sub‑delegation, the State Roads Authority and the municipal council to coordinate safety improvements.
