Pontifical Mission Societies celebrate centenary
The Pontifical Mission Societies (OMP) and the World Mission Sunday (Domund) are celebrating their centenary in 2026. This milestone coincides with the 100th birthday of missionary Herminia Altieri Bachiller.
Altieri, a member of the Company of the Sacred Heart of Jesus originally from Spain, has dedicated 75 years to missionary work. While currently residing in Lima, Peru, much of her service took place in the Nieva region of the Amazon. She expressed her lifelong vocation as a desire to share the message of God's mercy with those who did not know Him.
In a broader theological context, the parish is described as a vital missionary space for personal encounters with faith, serving as a channel for grace rather than a mere administrative structure. The mission is viewed as a source of community dynamism and joy through evangelization.
