Pontifical Mission Societies organize missionary preparation events

The Pontifical Mission Societies (OMP) are conducting various initiatives to prepare for Missionary October and World Mission Sunday 2026.

In Venezuela, the Archdiocese of Caracas held the IV Archdiocesan Assembly of Missionary Animation. The event, held at the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Parish College in Chacao, focused on the theme ‘One in Christ, united in the mission.’ Participants received materials and tools to strengthen missionary animation within parishes and communities. Archbishop Raúl Biord Castillo encouraged the faithful to live with a missionary spirit, while national director Ricardo Guillén emphasized that mission is a vocation for all baptized individuals.

In Spain, José María Calderón, national director of the OMP, highlighted the importance of missionary catechesis during a meeting for catechists. He stressed that religious instruction should go beyond transmitting doctrine to help disciples discover their missionary vocation. Calderón called for Christians to feel responsible for the Church's global mission, particularly in areas where resources like priests and religious workers are scarce.
