Vatican hosts global meeting on family and announces Assisi peace visit

Pope Leo XIV has convened an international meeting at the Vatican from October 7 to 14 to mark the tenth anniversary of the apostolic exhortation ‘Amoris Laetitia’. The gathering brings together presidents of episcopal conferences, leaders of Eastern Churches, experts, and couples to engage in synodal discernment regarding the role of the family in the modern world.

The meeting aims to listen to the realities of contemporary households, addressing challenges such as economic crises, the gap between sexuality and marriage, and the needs of younger generations. Rather than a doctrinal revision, the focus is on pastoral accompaniment and how to proclaim the Gospel within the context of modern family life.

In a separate announcement, the Pope is scheduled to visit Assisi on October 27, 2026, to participate in the 40th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Peace. This event, which commemorates the historic 1986 gathering initiated by Pope John Paul II, will involve interreligious leaders in a shared prayer for global peace and fraternity.
