Pope León XIV Plans South American Tour, Uruguay and Argentina Seek First Stop

Argentina’s Santa Fe governor Maximiliano Pullaro sent an official invitation to Pope León XIV, requesting a visit to the city of Rosario during a possible South American tour slated for early November. The invitation, confirmed by provincial spokesperson Virginia Coudannes, highlights Rosario’s recent transformation and symbolic significance.

In Uruguay, cardinal Daniel Sturla, the archbishop of Montevideo, said the Church hopes the Pope will begin his itinerary there. Sturla outlined a schedule that could run from November 5‑15, covering Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, with potential stops in Montevideo, Florida, and possibly Paysandú. He also mentioned a meeting with President Yamandú Orsi and cited past papal visits by John Paul II in 1987‑88. The Vatican has not yet confirmed the trip, with an official announcement expected later this summer.
