Pope León XIV visits Carabanchel, urges deeper unity and European cooperation

Pope León XIV arrived in Carabanchel, Madrid, and visited the Caritas shelter CEDIA, where he met Cuban mother Niurka with her twin infants and Senegalese youth Khadri, who has moved from being a recipient of aid to helping others. The pontiff framed his visit with the slogan “Alzad la mirada” (Raise your eyes), calling for greater reconciliation, dialogue and social friendship in Spain. He urged authorities to consider the perspectives of the poor and young, to balance autonomy with unity, and to view the European Union as a shared gift for humanity. In his remarks, the Pope referenced his recent encyclical, emphasizing the dignity of every person and warning against transhumanist attempts to surpass human limits, arguing that technology must serve humanity without replacing its relational and loving nature.
