Pope Leon XIV calls for dialogue and faith in Madrid visit

Pope Leon XIV, born Robert Prevost, arrived in Madrid for a historic apostolic visit, meeting youth, victims of clerical abuse and people experiencing homelessness. He addressed the Spanish Congress of Deputies and delivered a speech to more than 12,000 attendees at the Movistar Arena, framing the event as “Tejer Redes” – a call for social dialogue, listening and respect.

The pontiff emphasized the role of Christianity in European identity, asking “¿Es posible que la Europa que amamos exista sin la huella de la fe?” and echoing the phrase “No temáis. ¡Abrid de par en par las puertas a Cristo!” He also referenced his recent encyclical *Magnifica Humanitas*, warning about the impact of artificial intelligence and digital transformation on work and dignity. The Pope urged institutions—universities, businesses, arts, sport—to act with regard to human dignity, stating “Es menester un diálogo social, encuentro, escucha y respeto.”

Throughout his visit, the Pope linked moral and cultural renewal with broader societal challenges, calling for unity against polarization and advocating a future built on shared values and dialogue.
