Pope Leo XIV calls young people worldwide to reject complacency and become missionaries
Pope Leo XIV delivered three video messages to youth in Peru, Brazil and Portugal, urging them to abandon a "couch‑potato" attitude and embrace missionary zeal. In Peru, he addressed the Diocesan Youth Day in the Chota and Cutervo dioceses, calling for "holy rebelliousness" and service to the forgotten.
At Brazil's Halleluya Festival in Fortaleza, the pope cited the example of St. Carlo Acutis, encouraging young people to keep Christ central and to use social media and artificial intelligence responsibly. In Portugal, he spoke at the National Youth Day in Lamego, reaffirming the need for youthful energy in the Church’s mission. These messages are part of the Jubilee of Youth celebrations that began with a large vigil in Rome’s Tor Vergata neighborhood.
