Pope Leo XIV youth missionary outreach
Entities: Lamego, Portugal · Chota Diocese (Peru) · Fortaleza, Brazil · Pope Leo XIV · St. Carlo Acutis
Overview
In late July 2026, Pope Leo XIV highlighted the Church’s youth missionary drive. On 23 July, he praised about 140 young Regnum Christi missionaries from more than a dozen countries who had taken part in an international formation course in Rome, noting their street‑evangelisation work and outreach to local children.
Four days later, the pope broadened the appeal, delivering three video messages to young people in Peru, Brazil and Portugal. In each address he urged a rejection of a “couch‑potato” attitude, called for “holy rebelliousness,” and encouraged the use of social media and artificial intelligence in service of the Gospel. The messages formed part of the Jubilee of Youth celebrations that began with a large vigil in Rome.
Together, the events show a shift from a localized evangelisation effort in Rome to a coordinated, multimedia call for missionary zeal aimed at youth across several continents.
