Pope Leo XIV confirms November South American tour following lung surgery

Pope Leo XIV has confirmed his upcoming apostolic journey to South America, scheduled from November 6 to 17, 2026. The tour will include visits to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. In Argentina, the Pope is expected to visit Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján between November 8 and 11.

Following a successful surgery on October 13 to remove a localized lung adenocarcinoma, the Pope has begun resuming public activities, including general audiences at the Vatican. While his recovery is described by medical team members Luigi Carbone and Stefano Margaritora as excellent, he has canceled a planned helicopter trip to Assisi on October 27 as a precautionary measure.

Preparations for the tour are underway in the host countries. In Uruguay, organizers have confirmed events including a mass in Paysandú and a prayer vigil at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo. In Argentina, local authorities in Buenos Aires have already begun implementing traffic restrictions in preparation for the November visit.
