Pope Leo XIV calls for peace and reconciliation in Korea

During an audience at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV met with approximately 170 Korean priests, religious sisters, and consecrated men to discuss the upcoming 2027 World Youth Day (WYD) in Seoul. The Pontiff encouraged the religious community to act as “builders of peace” on the divided Korean Peninsula and to serve as witnesses of hope for the youth.

The Pope emphasized the spiritual heritage of the Korean Church, noting that it has transitioned from a mission territory to a homeland of missionaries, rooted in the sacrifice of its martyrs. He specifically highlighted the importance of connecting the memory of these martyrs with the future of the faith through the upcoming international gathering.

Additionally, the Pope provided reflections on love and marriage for a new edition of “YOUCAT: Love Forever,” describing true love as a lifelong commitment and a decision that reflects divine love through service, generosity, and forgiveness.
