Pope Leo XIV orders removal of Rupnik artwork from Vatican News

Pope Leo XIV has ordered the removal of artwork created by Father Marko Rupnik from the Vatican News website. Bishop Jean-Marc Micas of Tarbes and Lourdes confirmed the decision, noting the Pope’s determination to resolve the matter regarding the controversial priest’s work.

In preparation for the Pope’s upcoming apostolic trip to France from September 25–28, the mosaics created by Rupnik at the entrance of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Lourdes have been covered. Bishop Micas stated that the Vatican supports the decision to conceal these mosaics, which will remain covered even after the papal visit.

Additionally, the apostolic nunciature in Paris confirmed that no papal celebrations will be held in the Father Marko Rupnik mosaic-decorated chapel located within its building during the upcoming trip to France.
