Pope Leo XIV starts summer stay at Castel Gandolfo, suspends audiences

Pope Leo XIV arrived on July 5 at the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo, his summer residence, and will remain there until July 27. The Prefecture of the Papal Household announced that all general, private and special audiences are suspended for the period, with a resumption scheduled for August 5. The Angelus will be recited from Castel Gandolfo each Sunday in July.

During his stay the pope will host a “Lunch with the Pope” event on July 11, inviting about 200 people living in poverty or social vulnerability from the Diocese of Rome to share a meal at the Borgo Laudato Si’ ecological project. The day includes a Mass for the Care of Creation and a guided visit, highlighting the pontiff’s focus on solidarity with the peripheries. He will also continue routine duties such as issuing documents and receiving occasional visitors.
