Pope Leo XIV to visit Peru in November 2026, itinerary includes five cities

Interim President of Peru José María Balcázar announced that Pope Leo XIV will be in Peru during the first half of November 2026. The pontiff, who obtained Peruvian citizenship in 2015 after serving as bishop of Chiclayo, is expected to stay eight to ten days and visit five confirmed cities – Lima, Chiclayo, Piura, Cusco and Pucallpa – with the possibility of adding Arequipa, Puno, Iquitos or Sullana pending logistical and security assessments. Helicopters will be on standby so the pope can reach remote Quechua‑speaking villages such as Incahuasi and Cañaris in the north. A mass for thousands of faithful is planned on a 3 000‑hectare field in the pampas of Reque. The visit, described by the president as a chance for national reconciliation, comes amid a contested presidential runoff between Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sánchez; the pope urged an orderly transition and respect for the election outcome. Vatican officials said the trip will be part of a broader South‑American tour that could later include Argentina and Uruguay.
