Pope Leo XIV to visit Uruguay in November

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to visit Uruguay from November 6 to 8, with planned activities in Montevideo, Florida, and Paysandú. The announcement was made by Paysandú Intendant Nicolás Javier Olivera, who noted that the visit is the result of efforts initiated in 2021.

The visit has significant implications for local logistics and scheduling. In Paysandú, local businesses, including the hospitality and gastronomic sectors, are preparing for the influx of visitors. The region, including the thermal centers of Almirón and Guaviyú, has an estimated accommodation capacity of approximately 2,000 beds.

Additionally, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) has announced that the Clausura tournament schedule must be modified. The Ministry of the Interior informed the AUF that it cannot provide police coverage during the weekend of the papal visit, necessitating the rescheduling of the 14th round of the tournament.
