Pope Leo XIV urges Church unity and warns against SSPX ordinations

Pope Leo XIV highlighted the role of synodality in fostering global unity, citing the recent Borgo Dialogues at the Pontifical Villa Gardens. He linked the Church’s mission to broader ecological, social and economic transformation and warned against profit‑driven divisions, calling for a “civilization of love” rooted in the common good.

The pope also addressed the Society of St. Pius X’s plan to consecrate new bishops without a papal mandate, saying the Society’s decision would be a schismatic act and that the Church would have to move forward if the ordinations proceed. He noted a possible appeal for dialogue and reiterated the seriousness of excommunication for illicit consecrations.

In a separate remark, Pope Leo expressed optimism about a forthcoming U.S.–Iran agreement expected to end hostilities and lift sanctions, describing it as a hopeful step toward broader peace.
