Pope Leon XIV expected to visit Argentina in November, sources say

Rumours are circulating that Pope Leon XIV will travel to Argentina in November as part of a regional tour that could also include Uruguay and Peru. Argentine foreign minister Pablo Quirno told President Javier Milei that he delivered “the good news” about the papal visit, adding on social media, “Solo resta definir la fecha, qué linda primavera!”.

Former Uruguayan ambassador Carlos Enciso, speaking from the Vatican, indicated the itinerary is being prepared, while Argentine minister Sandra Pettovello reportedly has a pending trip to Rome to discuss details with Vatican officials. The Vatican has not yet issued an official announcement.

The speculation highlights the contrast with Pope Francis (Jorge Bergoglio), who never returned to his native Argentina as head of the Catholic Church, citing concerns over politicisation of the papacy.
