Pope Leon XIV slated for November visit to Uruguay

Cardinal Daniel Sturla, Archbishop of Montevideo, said that Pope Leon XIV is expected to travel to Uruguay in November 2026 as part of a broader South‑American tour that will also include Argentina and Peru. The exact dates and itinerary have not been officially confirmed by the Vatican, but Sturla indicated a possible window from early to mid‑November.

Preparations are under way after a preliminary apostolic delegation visited Montevideo, the Florida sanctuary of the Virgen de los Treinta y Tres, and the northern department of Paysandú. The Pope is expected to land at Carrasco International Airport in Canelones, hold a Mass in Florida on the feast day of the Virgin (Sunday, 8 November), and possibly celebrate another Mass at Montevideo's Estadio Centenario. He will meet President Yamandú Orsi, but a visit to the Uruguayan parliament is not planned.

Sturla expects the official Vatican announcement by the end of July, emphasizing the significance of the visit for Uruguay’s Catholic community and the nation as a whole.
