Pope Leon XIV's Barcelona trip features prison visit and airport tabernacle blessing
Pope Leon XIV will make a high‑profile stop in Barcelona, Spain, as part of his apostolic journey. The pontiff will be the first to visit the women's prison Brians 1 in Catalonia, where he is expected to address the inmates on respecting personal dignity and the challenges they face upon release.
Immediately after landing at El Prat airport, the Pope will bless a permanent tabernacle that is being installed in the airport chapel. The ceremony, announced by Bishop Xabier Gómez, is intended to restore a visible Catholic presence in the terminal.
Both events highlight the Pope’s focus on marginalized groups and symbolic gestures to reaffirm Catholic identity in public spaces during his June visit to the region.
