Pope Leon XIV’s visit drives upgrades in Chiclayo, Peru

Pope Leon XIV is scheduled to arrive in Peru in November and will celebrate a mass in the Pampas de Reque area of Lambayeque after a Vatican delegation inspected the site and confirmed its suitability for thousands of pilgrims.

In preparation, the municipal and regional authorities of Chiclayo have launched a 15 million‑soles road‑rehabilitation program covering 51 streets. Juan Vásquez, president of the Central de Taxis de Chiclayo, warned that “casi el 100 % de las vías están destruidas,” emphasizing the scale of the work. Coordination is underway with the Peruvian National Police, the Air Force and the Army to ensure security and smooth logistics for the papal visit.
