Popocatépetl and Etna report active volcanic activity

Recent volcanic activity has been reported at both Popocatépetl in Mexico and Mount Etna in Italy.

In Mexico, Popocatépetl recorded 28 exhalations accompanied by water vapor and volcanic gases over a 24-hour period. A volcanotectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 1.9 was also detected. The volcano remains at Yellow Phase 2, with potential risks including minor to moderate ash falls, incandescent fragments within a 12-kilometer exclusion zone, and possible lahars due to expected rainfall.

In Italy, Mount Etna continues to show activity with several effusive vents active at altitudes between 1,900 and 2,750 meters. Lava flows have been observed descending slopes in uninhabited areas, such as the Valle del Bove, and ash and smoke columns have been visible from Catania.
