Pordenone launches countdown to 2027 Italian Capital of Culture

Pordenone has officially launched its countdown to being named the Italian Capital of Culture in 2027. The kickoff included the inauguration of ‘La matita del tempo’ (The Pencil of Time), an interactive installation in Piazzetta Calderari designed by Migliore Servetto and produced by Solari di Udine. The orange steel structure serves as a sensory and digital tool to engage citizens and provide updates on the upcoming cultural program.

To prepare for the designation, the city has presented 52 diverse projects involving over one hundred organizations. These initiatives span ten thematic areas, including youth engagement, urban regeneration, inclusion, and sustainable mobility. The goal is to use culture as social infrastructure to improve daily life and strengthen connections between the city center and its peripheries.

Regional authorities, including Sergio Emidio Bini, have highlighted that the 2027 designation is a long-term investment intended to boost tourism and local infrastructure, drawing parallels to the organizational success of Gorizia and Nova Gorica as European Capitals of Culture in 2025. While the inauguration saw significant institutional presence, including Minister Luca Ciriani, Mayor Alessandro Basso was notably absent from the ceremony.
