Porsche adds virtual E‑Shift shifter and lifts Taycan range to 700 km

Porsche has unveiled a major mid‑cycle update for its Taycan electric sedan ahead of the 2027 model year. The centerpiece is the E‑Shift system, a virtual eight‑gear gearbox that reproduces the feel of a combustion‑engine sports car. Drivers activate the simulated gears with levers behind the steering wheel, while the system adds tactile resistance, a rev‑limit limiter and coordinated sound cues. E‑Shift comes standard on the Taycan Turbo GT and is offered as an option on all other Taycan variants.

The update also adds a new Performance Plus 105 kWh battery, extending WLTP‑rated range to up to 700 km – the longest commercial range for a Taycan, up from the previous 680 km. Optional low‑rolling‑resistance summer tyres for 20‑inch wheels are now available.

Inside, Porsche’s Communication Management (PCM) gains a five‑fold boost in processing power and a new Porsche Digital Interaction interface, featuring a 3‑D vehicle model, widget‑style controls and a customizable Themes app. Voice Pilot, powered by artificial‑intelligence, enables more natural, multi‑step conversations, while Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OTA updates, refined navigation and a magnetic‑ring wireless‑charging pad are also upgraded.

For owners of the Turbo GT with the Weissach package, Porsche is offering a Manthey Kit – an aerodynamic and performance package for circuit use, priced at roughly €50,000 in addition to the base model.
