Porsche clash over labor cuts and 10‑year site guarantee
New Porsche chief Michael Leiters plans to present a restructuring proposal that includes cutting more jobs than the previously announced 4,000, in exchange for a ten‑year guarantee of the main Zuffenhausen factory. The workforce will only accept the deeper reductions if the site is secured for a decade, creating a sharp conflict between management, employees and the Porsche family owners, who consider the long‑term commitment too risky.
The proposal will be debated by the supervisory board on 9 July in Wolfsburg and again on 22 July in Stuttgart‑Zuffenhausen. The plan is part of a broader Volkswagen Group cost‑saving drive triggered by US tariffs, weak sales in China and rising competition in Europe.
