Porsche faces potential 4,100 job cuts amid Volkswagen restructuring

Volkswagen is undergoing a major restructuring that includes a proposal to cut approximately 4,100 jobs at its luxury subsidiary, Porsche. This move aims to address an estimated 700 million euro overhead shortfall. These potential cuts would be in addition to previously agreed-upon reductions, which could impact up to one in five Porsche employees by 2035.

The financial pressure stems from a significant downward revision of Volkswagen's full-year operating profit margin target, now expected to be at most 1%, down from a previous range of 4.0% to 5.5%. This revision is largely driven by a 6 billion euro writedown on Volkswagen's stake in Porsche, alongside declining sales in China and the high costs associated with transitioning to electric vehicle strategies.

While Volkswagen can recommend these restructuring measures, it does not have the direct authority to impose them on Porsche. Both companies have declined to comment on the specific details of the reported plans.
