Porsche introduces wireless charging for Cayenne Electric
Porsche has introduced a wireless charging system for its new Cayenne Electric SUV. The technology, known as Porsche Wireless Charging, allows owners to charge their vehicles by simply parking over a weather-resistant ground plate, eliminating the need for manual cables.
The system utilizes magnetic induction via a copper coil to transfer energy to a receiver located on the vehicle's underbody. It offers a charging power of up to 11 kW with an efficiency rate of approximately 90 percent. To ensure safety, the hardware includes integrated motion sensors designed to detect and respond to objects or animals, such as cats or martens, that might move between the vehicle and the charging plate.
Currently, the technology is available for order in Germany and several other European markets, with a gradual rollout planned for other regions. The system is intended primarily for private spaces like homes or parking garages.
