Porsche may end Taycan electric production by 2030
Reports indicate that Porsche may phase out production of its flagship electric sedan, the Taycan, by 2030. According to information from the German publication WirtschaftsWoche, the company and its works council have reportedly reached an agreement to gradually end production of the model.
The decision follows a significant decline in sales. After reaching a peak of approximately 41,000 units in 2023, Taycan deliveries fell to roughly 16,000 in 2025, with only about 6,000 units sold in the first half of 2026. This downturn is attributed to cooling demand in the luxury electric vehicle market, increased competition in China, and shifting consumer preferences toward SUVs.
While Porsche CEO Michael Leiters has stated that there are no immediate plans to discontinue the model and that the company is focused on reducing complexity through variant streamlining, the reported 2030 timeline suggests a long-term strategic shift. Earlier discussions regarding moving production to Leipzig have reportedly been abandoned, with the Taycan expected to continue manufacturing in Stuttgart until its phase-out.
