Porsche reportedly to phase out Taycan electric model by 2030

Porsche is reportedly planning to phase out production of its flagship electric model, the Taycan, by 2030. According to reports from the German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche, Porsche management and its works council have reached an agreement in principle to end the model's production, though no formal written agreement has been finalized.

The decision follows a significant decline in sales. Global deliveries for the Taycan dropped from approximately 41,000 units in 2023 to roughly 16,000 in 2025, with only about 6,000 units sold in the first half of 2026. This downturn is attributed to weakening global demand for electric vehicles, competition from models like the Porsche Macan EV, and a consumer preference for larger SUVs over sport sedans.

While Porsche has not officially confirmed the reports, CEO Michael Leiters previously stated in July that there were “no plans to discontinue the Taycan in the short term.” The company has faced broader economic challenges, including falling operating profits and a need to navigate shifting market dynamics in China and the United States.
