Porsche retires gas‑powered Macan and rolls out electric Cayenne
Porsche will end production of the first‑generation gasoline‑engine Macan at the end of the month, with the final vehicle leaving the Leipzig plant after a 12‑year run. The ICE Macan, which outsold its electric sibling in the first half of 2026, is being replaced by a new gas‑and‑hybrid compact crossover slated for 2028 under a different name, while the Macan badge will be reserved for an upcoming EV model. Porsche has built up inventory for the U.S. market that is expected to last into 2027.
In parallel, the German automaker has introduced the fully electric Cayenne in New Zealand. The range includes a base Cayenne and a Turbo variant that delivers up to 850 kW and 1 500 Nm, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds despite a curb weight of 2.6 tonnes. The electric Cayenne features advanced dynamics such as launch control, active ride, and optional rear‑wheel steering, and is priced from NZ$215,000 for the base model to NZ$295,000 for the Turbo. The conventional ICE Cayenne will continue with a mid‑cycle facelift later next year.
