Porsche says 911 will stay hybrid, no fully electric version planned
Porsche AG announced at its 2026 Annual General Meeting that the iconic 911 model will never be produced as a fully electric vehicle. Chairman of the Executive Board Dr. Michael Leiters said a specially developed performance‑hybrid powertrain will be the "elixir of life" for the 911’s future, confirming the car will remain powered by internal‑combustion engines combined with hybrid technology.
The decision is part of Porsche’s three‑pillar Strategy 2035, which also outlines financial targets of €35‑36 billion revenue for 2026, a 5.5‑7.5 % operating return, and portfolio simplification measures. While the 911 stays hybrid, other models such as the Macan, Cayenne and the upcoming 718 variants will continue to receive both ICE and electric options. Porsche will maintain development across ICE, hybrid and full‑electric platforms, and is reviewing platform sharing and model complexity across its range.
The announcement underscores Porsche’s commitment to preserving the 911’s driving identity while navigating the broader industry shift toward electrification.
