Porsche shifts focus to iconic models and unveils dual‑bank engine patent
Porsche announced a strategic shift away from a strict electrification roadmap toward a slimmer, more profitable line centred on its iconic models. The plan, targeting 2035, will keep the 911 and other flagship cars available with conventional internal‑combustion engines, hybrid systems and limited electric versions, while reducing overall model overlap. The German automaker says the approach will preserve its sporty DNA and improve margins as demand for fully electric cars eases and the Chinese market contracts.
In parallel, Porsche filed a patent for a V8 power unit that houses two cylinder banks on a single crankshaft. One bank can operate as a generator in extended‑range electric (EREV) mode, while the other provides direct performance‑oriented power for hybrid‑plug‑in or pure‑combustion driving. The design aims to maximise efficiency by using a Miller cycle in the generator bank and advanced low‑friction components. Porsche hopes the technology will give its future models flexible propulsion options without sacrificing the brand’s performance heritage.
