Porsche to End Gasoline Macan Production by July 2026

Porsche announced that the first‑generation gasoline‑engine Macan will cease production at its Leipzig plant at the end of July 2026, marking the end of a 12‑year run that began in 2014. The model had already been withdrawn from most European markets because it did not meet new cyber‑security regulations, and sales of the electric Macan have not compensated for the decline in demand for the internal‑combustion version. Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, said, “We made a mistake regarding the Macan. Based on the data available at the time we would make the same decision again, but today the situation is different. We are re‑introducing internal‑combustion and hybrid engines.”

Porsche built up inventories to satisfy strong U.S. demand, expecting the stock to last through 2027. The company has no immediate replacement ready; a new compact crossover with gasoline and hybrid powertrains is planned for launch in 2028 and will carry a different name, while the Macan badge will be retained for the electric line. The discontinuation follows earlier phase‑outs of the 718 Boxster/Cayman, leaving temporary gaps in Porsche’s model range.
