Porsche to End Production of Petrol‑Powered Macan SUV by End of July 2026

Porsche announced that production of the gasoline‑engine Porsche Macan will cease at the end of July 2026, ending a model line that has run for about 12 years. In the first half of 2026 the Macan sold 35,315 units worldwide, of which 19,965 were petrol‑powered and 15,620 were battery‑electric.

Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume said the company misjudged market conditions when the model was launched and that new EU General Safety Regulations (GSR2) would have required costly redesigns of the ICE version. As a result, Porsche stopped EU sales of the petrol Macan and is winding down production globally.

To soften the impact, Porsche will retain a stock of petrol models for sale into 2027, particularly in the United States, until the next internal‑combustion Macan arrives. The successor, codenamed “M1,” will use the group’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) shared with the third‑generation Audi Q5 and is expected to debut around 2028.
