Port de Barcelona approves new cruise terminal project
The Port de Barcelona Board of Directors has approved a plan to restructure its cruise operations, moving toward a reduction from seven terminals to five to increase sustainability. As part of this reorganization, the current Terminal C will cease operations on November 1, followed by its demolition.
The project involves the construction of a new, large-scale Terminal C covering 11,253 square meters. This new facility will be a public terminal, open to all shipping lines, and will incorporate high environmental standards, including photovoltaic energy generation and onshore power supply (OPS) systems to allow ships to connect to the electrical grid and turn off auxiliary engines.
The total planned investment is approximately 104.5 to 110 million euros, with more than half dedicated to the new building. The redevelopment also includes relocating the access roundabout to the Muelle Adossat, urbanizing access roads, and constructing new passenger boarding and disembarking walkways.
