Barcelona cruise terminal redevelopment project
Overview
The Port de Barcelona Board of Directors approved a plan to restructure cruise operations by reducing the number of terminals from seven to five to improve sustainability. This reorganization involves the demolition of the existing Terminal C and the construction of a new, 11,253 square meter facility on the Adossat Quay.
Global Ports Holding (GPH) will lead a 104.5 million euro investment in the project. More than 50 million euros is allocated to the terminal building, with the remainder supporting access roads, transport areas, and other infrastructure. The new terminal is designed to meet high environmental standards, featuring photovoltaic energy generation and onshore power supply (OPS) systems to allow ships to connect to the electrical grid.
In connection with this development, GPH’s operating concession, which was originally scheduled to expire in 2030, has been extended to 2050, with a potential further extension until 2053.
