Port Harcourt: Two police officers remanded over fatal shooting
Two police officers, Corporal Alfred Louis and Police Constable Michael Ejekwu, have been remanded at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre following the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Anthony Obodo. The incident occurred on August 27 at the Ada George Junction in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Chief Magistrate Helen Hardy ordered the remand after the charges were not read during the Thursday proceedings. The court has adjourned the matter until September 22, at which time the officers are expected to enter their pleas.
Two other officers, Assistant Superintendent of Police Fabian Kpeanabari and Inspector Solomon Nworgu, were previously dismissed in connection with the death. While Kpeanabari’s dismissal requires ratification by the Police Service Commission, Nworgu remains at large. Chinedu Maduba, Chairman of the Port Harcourt Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, expressed concern regarding why only two of the officers in custody were presented before the court.
