Mediterranean and Venezuelan ports report shifts in cargo and logistics activity

Major Mediterranean and Venezuelan ports are reporting significant shifts in cargo and logistics activity. In Spain, the Port of Alicante has seen a 22.98% increase in total goods moved through August, reaching over 2.2 million tons. This growth is largely driven by general cargo and a 32.28% rise in container traffic. Similarly, PortCastelló reported an 11.1% increase in cumulative traffic for the first eight months of the year, totaling over 13.4 million tons, with liquid bulk leading the growth.

In Venezuela, efforts to restore logistics following recent earthquakes are underway. The Port of La Guaira has seen a 34% increase in container nationalization, supported by modernization plans from Seniat. Additionally, the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía has resumed operations using temporary terminals, with 19 airlines currently active. Authorities reported an 8% increase in container arrivals and a 10% rise in total cargo volume compared to the previous year.
