Port of Alicante capacity and traffic expansion

Overview

The Port of Alicante has undertaken efforts to expand its operational capacity and strengthen its position in Mediterranean logistics. Initial developments included the addition of the vessel MilaGreen, which has a capacity of up to 1,200 TEUs, alongside 450 new containers to increase flexibility in cargo handling.

Following these capacity expansions, the port reported a 22.98% increase in cargo traffic through August, totaling 2,227,489 tons. This growth was largely driven by a 44.45% rise in general cargo and a 46.49% increase in containerized goods. Container volume reached 166,524 TEUs, a 32.28% increase over the previous year.

Alongside cargo growth, cruise passenger arrivals rose by 11%. To sustain this momentum, the Port Authority is planning infrastructure improvements, such as deepening the draft at Pier 13, completing Pier 19, and enhancing the rail-port station.
