Port of Constanta deploys two autonomous Triton systems for maritime drone detection

From Tuesday, 28 July, two Triton autonomous maritime systems will be operational at Romania’s Port of Constanta. The platforms will be positioned at the north and south dike areas and will be supervised by specialists from the U.S. firm Ocean Aero Inc.

Each Triton unit runs on solar and wind power, can operate autonomously for more than 30 days on the surface at speeds above 9 km/h, and can submerge for up to 10 days at around 3.7 km/h to collect data above and below the water. Authorities say the systems will not interfere with navigation safety.

The deployment follows a June incident in which a Ukrainian maritime drone detonated inside the port, prompting a temporary evacuation but causing no casualties. The National Administration of Maritime Ports Constanta (CN APMC) announced the new equipment as part of a programme to evaluate modern solutions for protecting critical port infrastructure and the surrounding water basin.
