Romanian autonomous maritime surveillance rollout

In early July 2026 the Romanian Coast Guard showcased the Triton autonomous surface‑and‑submersible vehicle at Constanța Port, highlighting its 30‑day surface endurance, 10‑day underwater operation, 360‑degree sensors and solar‑powered propulsion. The demonstration was part of a broader Ministry of Internal Affairs effort to enhance protection of critical maritime infrastructure.

By the end of July, two Triton units were officially deployed at the north and south dikes of the Port of Constanța. Supervised by Ocean Aero specialists, the platforms operate on solar and wind energy, patrol at speeds above 9 km/h on the surface and 3.7 km/h while submerged, and are intended to detect maritime drones following a June incident where a Ukrainian drone detonated inside the port. Authorities stress that the systems will not interfere with navigation safety and are part of a program to test modern solutions for safeguarding the port and surrounding waters.
