Port of Dover blocked by masked protesters targeting migrant crossings

Hundreds of masked protesters, many dressed in black and wearing balaclavas, blocked access to the Port of Dover on Saturday. The demonstration, which targeted illegal migrant crossings via small boats in the English Channel, caused significant disruption to traffic in and out of the port and the surrounding town.

National Highways reported traffic congestion of up to six kilometers on local roads, including the A20, with delays reaching 45 minutes. The Port of Dover confirmed a public order incident that temporarily halted all routes, though access was gradually restored by midday.

The Patriot Platform, a hard-right network, claimed responsibility for the demonstration. Local politicians, including Labour MP Mike Tapp, criticized the disruption, noting that small boat crossings have decreased by over 40% compared to 2025 due to increased cooperation between the UK and France. While Kent Police engaged with the protesters to manage the situation, no immediate arrests were reported.
