Port of Gdańsk lease with Baltic Hub and ORLEN marine terminal boost Polish logistics
The Port of Gdańsk Authority signed a 30‑year lease for a 27‑hectare site next to the T2 deep‑water terminal with Baltic Hub Container Terminal. The agreement gives Baltic Hub the right to develop an intermodal rail and container handling area, including a 750‑metre rail siding and new container‑handling equipment, strengthening Poland’s role as a logistics hub for Central and Eastern Europe.
Energy group ORLEN opened a marine transshipment terminal at its Gdańsk refinery. The facility, built mainly by Polish contractors at a cost of about PLN 500 million, features a 380‑metre quay with two berths and automated loading arms, allowing simultaneous handling of vessels up to 10 000 DWT. It is designed for an annual throughput of 1.8‑2 million tonnes, exporting base oils, low‑sulphur marine gas oil and xylene while importing FAME, ethanol, MTBE and ETBE.
Separately, the Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad (GDDKiA) awarded contracts for major road works: a 6.2‑km upgrade of national road DK57 between Szczytno and Szymany (≈ 43 million zł) and a 16.1‑km bypass of Starogard Gdański (≈ 408 million zł) to improve safety and traffic flow. Polregio also ordered six new Elf 3 electric trains from PESA for 214.8 million zł, expanding passenger rail capacity.
