Port of Salerno labor dispute intensifies over denied funding

Labor unions CGIL and FILT CGIL have issued a sharp criticism against the President of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority, Eliseo Cuccaro, following the denial of financial contributions for the years 2025 and 2026 to the CULP ‘Flavio Gioia’ in Salerno.

The denied funding, provided under Article 199 of Decree-Law no. 34/2020, supports the temporary port labor provider. Unions warn that this decision puts approximately one hundred workers and their families at risk, potentially compromising the security and operational continuity of the Port of Salerno.

Union leaders Carmen Morra and Antonio Apadula argue that the decision contradicts recent Council of State rulings which emphasize that temporary labor providers are essential pillars of the port system. They also claim the denial runs counter to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s directive to extend such measures to protect employment and operational stability. The unions have warned of intensified industrial action if the current stance is not reversed.
