Italian labor disputes in schools and ports

Labor disputes in Italy have emerged across multiple sectors, specifically involving school integration services in Taranto and port operations in the Campania region.

In Taranto, unions FP CGIL and CISL FP Taranto Brindisi organized a sit-in to protest delays in school integration services for students with disabilities. While authorities announced a service resumption date for late September, unions demanded more comprehensive measures, including new hires and guaranteed financial coverage.

In the Campania region, industrial action at the ports of Naples and Salerno initially faced a temporary suspension to allow for discussions regarding resource allocation for temporary port labor. However, tensions escalated following the denial of financial contributions for 2025 and 2026 to the CULP ‘Flavio Gioia’ in Salerno. Unions CGIL and FILT CGIL criticized the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority, arguing that the lack of funding threatens the job security of approximately one hundred workers and contradicts recent legal rulings and ministry directives. Labor leaders have warned of intensified industrial action if the funding decision is not reversed.
