Thessaloniki Port: 3,081 illegal weapons seized from Chinese container

Customs officials from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) seized 3,081 illegal weapons and sharp objects at the Port of Thessaloniki. The shipment, which originated from China and was destined for a company in Bulgaria, had been falsely declared as containing sunglasses and beads.

The discovery occurred during routine sampling inspections. After an X-ray scan using a mobile system revealed suspicious areas within the container, a full physical inspection was conducted. This led to the discovery of 24 cartons containing a variety of weapons, including 1,900 stilettos, 470 butterfly knives, 595 swords of various blade lengths, 110 knuckle dusters, and 6 curved karambit knives.

The seizure was carried out following the approval of the Criminal Prosecution Prosecutor. AADE stated that these targeted inspections are part of ongoing efforts to ensure the legality of supply chains and protect public safety.
