Weapon seizures at the Port of Thessaloniki
Overview
Customs inspectors at the Port of Thessaloniki seized 3,081 illegal weapons and blades discovered inside a shipping container. The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) identified the contraband during routine sampling inspections of a container originating from China and destined for Bulgaria.
While the shipment was declared as containing sunglasses and beads, X-ray scanning revealed suspicious areas. A physical inspection uncovered 24 boxes containing 1,900 stilettos, 470 butterfly knives, 595 swords of various lengths, 110 knuckle dusters, and 6 karambit knives. The items were confiscated following approval from the Criminal Prosecution Prosecutor.
AADE stated that these targeted inspections are part of ongoing efforts to “ensure the legality of supply chains and protect public safety.”
