Port of Valencia hosts Spain’s first marine solar demonstrator
The Port of Valencia has commenced testing for Spain’s first pre-commercial marine solar demonstrator. Developed by BlueNewables with support from Naturgy, the project aims to explore renewable energy solutions in maritime environments.
The demonstrator consists of two 500 kW floating platforms, named Paiporta and Catarroja, which have completed installation and are beginning real-world operations. Over the coming months, researchers will analyze platform performance, behavior in marine conditions, maintenance requirements, and integration within port infrastructures.
Floating marine photovoltaics offer potential for regions with limited or high-value land availability, providing new opportunities for ports, coastal infrastructures, and island systems.
