Port of Vancouver hits record cargo volumes in H1 2026
The Port of Vancouver reported record cargo volumes for the first half of 2026, reaching 88.1 million metric tonnes (MMT), a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth was primarily driven by record exports of Prairie grain and Alberta crude oil to Indo-Pacific markets.
Other sectors also showed strength, with vehicle imports and cruise operations setting new half-year records. While exports of coal and fertilizer remained steady, the port continues to serve as a critical hub for diverse Canadian goods, including Quebec aluminum, Ontario machinery, and British Columbia forestry products and critical minerals.
Peter Xotta, President and CEO of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, noted that more than $1 billion in goods moves through the port daily. He highlighted the port's role in supporting Canada's goal to double exports to non-U.S. markets over the next decade, citing upcoming projects like Roberts Bank Terminal 2 to increase capacity.
