Italy reports multiple thefts and scams targeting elderly citizens
Various criminal incidents, including a surge in scams targeting the elderly, have been reported across Italy. A recurring method involves perpetrators posing as Carabinieri officers to convince victims to hand over cash and gold jewelry under the guise of official investigations. These scams have been documented in several regions, leading to multiple arrests in areas such as San Lucido, Pisa, and Genoa.
Other reported crimes include robberies and thefts. In Catania, a 21-year-old was arrested after stealing from tourists and assaulting police officers. In Modugno, authorities recovered a stolen Mercedes following a chase. Additionally, a social worker in Castelnovo Monti was accused of stealing jewelry from the elderly patients she was assigned to assist. Local authorities in Boffalora have issued warnings to citizens, particularly the elderly, to remain vigilant against fraudulent individuals claiming to be service workers or law enforcement.
